International Women’s Day: Staff Faves, IWD Stats, & More

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us honor the remarkable achievements and contributions of women around the world. International Women's Day is a reminder of the strength, resilience, and boundless potential that each and every woman possesses within her.

Together, let's continue to uplift and empower one another, creating a world where gender equality thrives and every woman's voice is heard.

Women's Rights Statistics

In 2022, the global average percentage of women employed was 39.49%.

Based on ILO figures from 1990 to 2021, the World Bank released data comparing the labor force participation rates of men and women. There has always been a lower participation rate among women than among men. The ratio increased from 67% in 1990 to roughly 68.4% in 2005. It dropped until 2018 and then rose to roughly 68.7 in 2021.

There are 26 nations with 28 female heads of state or government as of January 10, 2024. It will take 130 years to achieve gender equality in the top positions of power at the current rate.

In the single or lower house, the number of female parliamentarians has increased from 11% in 1995 to just 26.5% total.

According to data gathered from 141 countries, over 3 million women—or 35.5%—make up elected members of local deliberative bodies. Of the 22 countries with more than 40% of women in local administration, only three have hit the 50% mark.

IWD serves as a reminder of both the progress made and the remaining distance in the fight for gender equality. In 1911, there were only eight nations where women could vote, there was no such thing as equal pay for equal work, assuming women could work at all, and there were no rights regarding reproduction.

Understanding feminism is useful for analyzing women's rights. The key principle of feminism is that women should have equal rights in terms of politics, the economy, and society. The goal of feminism is to put women on an equal footing with men and allow them to fully enjoy their rights.

On International Women's Day, we remember that we are all victims of discrimination, harassment, injustice, or oppression as long as one woman is.

Because we occasionally need to remind ourselves that we're not alone.

Fave Products From the Women of Gaia Herbs

We thought it might be fun to ask some of our staff what their favorite products are and how they help them get through their day-to-day.

Regina R.:

“When I’m experiencing a lot of stress (which is easy to do with two kids, a full-time job, and other competing priorities), I find I struggle to sleep well. SleepThru helps me get a good night’s sleep without leaving me feeling groggy the next morning. And sleep is so important to overall mental and physical health!”

Jayme T.:

  • Maca Root provides me with a natural boost of energy that doesn’t make me miss my morning coffee ritual, which is helpful when trying to limit the amount of coffee/caffeine I consume in a day.
  • Being a busy, working mom of 3, sometimes my brain gets cluttered. Lion’s Mane help me clear the mental cobwebs so I can be at my best.
  • The Turmeric Supreme gummies taste delicious, which is an added bonus, but overall the turmeric has been a game changer for moving my body with ease.

    Emma C.:

“I love the Adrenal Health Daily supplements for the adaptogen blend of Rhodiola, Holy Basil, Ashwagandha, Schisandra & Oats. I take it before bed to support my adrenals after a stressful day.”

    Lillie W.:

“I really love the Black Elderberry Syrup when I'm feeling a little under the weather, as well as the Rapid Immune Defense gummies. The SleepThru caps are great when my sleep schedule is off!”

    Megan L.:

“I enjoy the Adrenal Health Nightly Restore, as it helps me feel nourished and ready for whatever, regardless of the actual quality or length of my sleep. I also use Quick Defense whenever I’m feeling run down. It helps my body’s natural defenses kick into high gear.”

      Susan H.:

      • Black Seed oil: Not a complex formulation, but an amazing herb and amazing source, with guaranteed thymoquinone content for all of your antioxidant needs. Black Seed oil provides many of the same benefits as both turmeric and oregano, making it versatile for supporting healthy respiratory system. This is a daily must-have for me.
      • Mighty Lungs: This product is a love poem to support the foundational health of your respiratory system. It provides the benefits of traditional herbs for lung support, including our Gaia-grown marshmallow root extract.
      • Gut Revival: This product supports the most crucial territory of your gut lining, to aid the body in creating foundational health. The health of the gut lining influences nutrient status, immune resilience, digestive function, and much more. This formula helps you to maximize nutrient absorption and barrier protection in a convenient once daily capsule.

        Allison A.:

Adrenal Health Daily + Adrenal Health Nightly are the perfect duo for managing stress. I’ve really noticed that my overall emotional state is more balanced when I’m consistent with taking these. The Ashwagandha Gummies are truly incredible and delicious. I give them as gifts because so many of my friends love them!
