Your Guide to Gaia Herbs’ Black Elderberry Syrup

Explore everything you need to know about immune-empowering Black Elderberry Syrup and exactly how to use it to keep you and your loved ones healthy.

1. Exploring Immune-Empowering Black Elderberry

America’s most popular and best-selling organic Elderberry Syrup, our Black Elderberry Syrup keeps you healthy by concentrating the juice from 14.5 grams of Elderberries into a single teaspoon to get all the immune support you need in one simple spoonful per day.

In fact, our customers love this syrup so much, that it was the 2020 Taste for Life Women’s Essential Award winner, 2019 Whole Foods Magazine Natural Choice Award Winner for Best Herbal Supplement, a 2014 Taste for Life Essentials Award winner, and has over 80, 5-star reviews on our website!

Formulated with just four clean, whole-food ingredients, this Certified USDA Organic syrup is made with both organic Black Elderberries and Acerola berries and works hard to keep you healthy and happy all year round.

But we know the journey to wellness can be a confusing one. Now that your package is in your hands, you’re likely wondering — is just the syrup enough? How much do I really need? And how does it work, anyway?

Let’s dig into this guide and explore a bit more about our immune-empowering friend, Black Elderberry.

2. How Does Black Elderberry Syrup Work?

One of the most commonly used herbs for immune support, Black Elderberries are high in flavonoids called anthocyanins, which give the berries their bluish-purple color, as well as another group called anthocyanidins

These flavonoids have antioxidant properties and assist with the body's natural defenses and cell communication. Scientific evidence shows that anthocyanins and anthocyanidins support the immune system as well as overall visual, cardiovascular, and neurological health.

Black Elderberry is also considered an immunomodulator, meaning its properties support your immune system so it can work more effectively and increase its response rate. Because of these immune-modulating and antioxidant properties, Black Elderberry is able to work at the cellular level and provide support for our overall immune health.*

Additionally, Quercetin, a flavonoid contained in the berries, promotes a healthy upper respiratory system by supporting the inflammatory response and maintaining the integrity of the mucous membranes. Quercetin also supports a healthy response to occasional pain in the joints and muscles for healthy individuals (learn more about Quercetin, here!).*

And Rutin, another flavonoid, supports the integrity of the blood vessels, helping to keep them strong.*

As you can see, there are many reasons to lean on Black Elderberry in times of hardship.

But in order to maintain a healthy outlook all year round, we encourage a mindset of proactivity, ie. taking your supplement every day, rather than one of reactivity, ie. only taking your supplement when you feel off.

3. When Should I Take Black Elderberry Syrup?

Keeping a proactive philosophy in mind, we formulated our Black Elderberry Syrup so that you could take it every day and be supported all year round!

For consistent immune support, we recommend 1 teaspoon daily for everyone ages four and above (not for use during pregnancy). And, for your little ones under three, we recommend a ¼ teaspoon daily. If you’re concerned about sugar sensitivity, you could try taking it in the morning. Otherwise, feel free to enjoy it any time that works best for you.

Besides tasting delicious, another reason for you and your loved ones to feel confident reaching for Black Elderberry Syrup is that it contains no corn, dairy, gluten, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, or yeast, and is sweetened only with Organic cane sugar.

4. How To Use Your Black Elderberry Syrup

While it’s tasty all by itself, mixed into sparkling water or juice, or drizzled on a bowl of yogurt or oatmeal, there are tons more fun Black Elderberry Syrup recipes to get creative with!

5. Meet Your Elderberries

While many of our herbs are grown on our 350-acre organic farm in Brevard, North Carolina, some plants do best in their native bioregion, where the conditions are just right.

The Black Elderberries used in our products, including syrups and gummies, for example, are Haschberg Elderberries, and come from a European growing cooperative based in Austria, made up of over 500 farmers with deep respect for their land and practices.

Interested in learning more about your herbs and where they’re grown? We created Meet Your Herbs®, the world’s first herb traceability platform, just for this reason.

Simply locate the Herb ID on the back of your Gaia Herbs product, type it into the search bar at meetyourherbs.com, and discover the origin of your herbs, how they were grown, harvested, and extracted, and see the validation of your product’s level of purity and potency.
