1. About Amazing Ashwagandha

Used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years to help manage stress, promote relaxation, support sleep, and more, Ashwagandha is a well-studied and revered herb.

Becoming increasingly popular, there is much to learn about amazing Ashwagandha and how to use it to support you on your path to wellness.

Scientifically known as Withania somnifera, Ashwagandha is also known as Ashwagandha Root, Indian Ginseng, or Winter Cherry, and is derived from the Sanskrit words “Ashwa,” meaning horse, and “Gandha,” meaning smell or odor.

The meaning behind the name refers to the scent it gives off once ground and its traditional use to impart “horse-like” strength, stamina, and resilience to the body, mind, and spirit.*

The plant itself belongs to the Solanaceae or Nightshade family and is a short evergreen shrub with velvety leaves and bell-shaped flowers that contain orange berries inside, similar in appearance to tomatillos or small tomatoes. It’s harvested mostly in the Middle East, through India into western China, and south into parts of Africa.

At Gaia Herbs, we use Ashwagandha in dried, powdered, and gummy form in many different blends to support your immune system, stress response, metabolism, reproductive system, sleep cycles, overall health, and more.*

Let’s dig into this guide and explore a bit more about our adaptogenic friend, Ashwagandha.

2. How Do Ashwagandha Gummies Work?

Ashwagandha is considered an adaptogen, meaning it promotes balance in many different systems of the body by getting to know your stress response and helping you adapt.*

This is thanks in large part to its compounds known as withanolides, which are naturally occurring plant steroids that have been shown to promote healthy cortisol levels, which can help soothe feelings of stress and occasional anxiety and support hormones and reproductive health in both men and women.

Ashwagandha is also a nootropic that supports  cognitive function, memory, creativity, and motivation, among other benefits. It provides nourishment for the brain by crossing the blood-brain barrier to directly support brain cells.

Ashwagandha supports healthy nervous system function and helps to balance important neurotransmitter levels in the brain like GABA, responsible for sustaining calmness and maintaining muscle tone, and serotonin, involved in mood regulation.

Thanks to its adaptability, humans have leaned on Ashwagandha throughout history for many different applications, including brain, nervous system, immune, hormone, energy, sleep, stress, inflammation, and cardiovascular support.

As you can see, Ashwagandha is a versatile herb with many potential benefits.

The only problem is that it’s not particularly tasty, which is why our Ashwagandha Gummies are the perfect way to elevate your daily ritual while also indulging in a guilt-free, naturally sweet treat.

With each serving delivering the equivalent of 6 g of Ashwagandha, it only takes 3 gummies per day to experience the benefits of this adaptogenic herb.*

But in order to reap the long-term benefits, we encourage a mindset of proactivity, ie. taking your supplement every day, rather than one of reactivity, ie. only taking your supplement when you feel off.

3. When Should I Take Ashwagandha Gummies?

Keeping a proactive philosophy in mind, we formulated our Ashwagandha Gummies so that you could take them every day and feel the benefits build over time.

For consistent support, we recommend people 12 years and older chew three gummies once daily (not for use during pregnancy). Benefits will build over time and with consistency.

With their tasty Ginger and Cinnamon flavor, these gummies are naturally sweetened with real fruit from blueberries, apples, and dates, and have no refined sugar, artificial flavors, or colors, making them a once-daily treat you can feel great about eating.

4. Meet Your Ashwagandha

While many of our herbs are grown on our 350-acre organic farm in Brevard, North Carolina, some plants do best in their own native bioregion, where the conditions are just right.

Our Organic Ashwagandha Root comes from India, where it is water-extracted using only the dried roots and no leaves and is fully traceable from seed to shelf. Our supplier has a state-of-the-art processing facility that ensures the highest quality product and has also developed social and environmental projects to address clean water and education inequality.

The full spectrum Ashwagandha is meticulously tested for adulteration at our ISO-certified lab at Gaia headquarters in Brevard, North Carolina, where we can determine its concentration of beneficial withanolide and polysaccharide compounds. We’re proud to maintain full end-to-end transparency and traceability on all raw materials.

Interested in learning more about your herbs and where they’re grown? We created Meet Your Herbs®, the world’s first herb traceability platform, just for this reason.
